Capio Group divests its Spanish operations

Capio, one of Europe’s leading healthcare providers, today announced that it has divested its Spanish operations to the private equity fund CVC Capital Partners in Spain. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The proceeds will be used to pay back Capio’s loans, to invest in new facilities in France and to fund add-on acquisitions in existing markets.

“This divestment will ensure adequate financing of Capio going forward and we have earmarked 250 MEUR for investments in new facilities in France, as well as 150 MEUR for add-on acquisitions in our existing markets”, says Thomas Berglund.

The healthcare services sector continues to show good growth in Europe, driven by ever-rising patient demand due to demographics, patient expectations and availability of new treatments and technology. 

After the sale of Capio in Spain, the Capio Group will have annual sales of 1,100 MEUR and 9,000 employees at more than 60 facilities in France, Germany, UK, Sweden and Norway. The Spanish business will have annual sales of 575 MEUR and 6,000 employees at 12 facilities across Spain. The division of the two companies will be effective as of today.

The transaction was approved by the EU competition authorities on the 23 February.
